DIY Wire Wrapped Spiral Bead Earrings

This post may contain affiliate links.

I’ve been on a wire craft making kick lately – from making DIY Gold Floral Earrings and DIY Wire Monstera Leaf Earrings – when I spotted a pair of wire-wrapped spiral bead earrings in a small shop. I couldn’t stop thinking about them. They were simple but eye-catching, with this lovely swirl of wire wrapped around a bead. I knew I had to give them a try at home.

This project was such a joy to make, and now I’m excited to walk you through it too! In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create your own version of these spiral earrings, step-by-step. What I love most is that you can make them completely your own—play with the bead color, change the size, or switch up the wire for a totally different vibe.

The combination of smooth beads and graceful wire spirals gives these earrings a timeless, slightly playful feel—perfect for dressing up or adding a little edge to your everyday look.

How to Make Spiral Bead Earrings

STEP 1:

Take a random length of 22-gauge wire and insert it through a large bead. Make sure you leave enough wire on both ends for wrapping and shaping.

Using round-nose pliers, make a small loop at one end of the wire. Start bending the wire around the loop, forming a spiral by curving the wire repeatedly. Continue shaping the spiral until it reaches about half an inch in diameter.

STEP 2:

Press the finished spiral gently onto the bead, ensuring it sits firmly against the surface. This will create a decorative wire accent on the bead.

STEP 3:

At the other end of the bead, make a small loop right above the bead’s hole. This loop will serve as a connector for the next bead.

Once the loop is made, pass the wire over it twice to reinforce the structure. Continue wrapping the wire tightly around the bead, ensuring it grips the surface securely.

STEP 4:

Trim the excess wire, leaving about 2 inches to form another spiral. Take the remaining 2-inch wire and form another spiral. Press the spiral onto the bead just like before.

STEP 5:

Take another piece of 22-gauge wire and create a small loop at one end. Insert a second round bead onto the wire, then create another loop on the opposite side.

STEP 6:

Start wrapping the wire around the bead, covering about ¼ of its surface. Adjust the wire wrapping to ensure a smooth and secure fit.

STEP 7:

Using pliers, gently curve the wire’s end onto the bead. This will enhance the earring’s overall design.

STEP 8:

Open the loop of the first bead and attach the second bead’s loop to it. Use pliers to close the loop securely, ensuring both beads are well-connected.

STEP 9:

Attach an earring hook to the top loop of the design. Repeat the steps to create the second earring.

Your beautiful wire-wrapped spiral bead earrings are now ready to wear!
