How to Make Paper Palm Leaves

Start with a sheet of construction paper. Using a ruler and pencil, draw a slightly diagonal line across the paper to create an asymmetrical shape. Cut along this line to divide the paper into two halves.

Take one half and begin making small accordion-style folds from one edge to the other, flipping the paper over with each fold. Repeat this process with the other half of the paper.

Apply glue to the wider end of both folded pieces and press them together, forming the leaf shape. Once secured, trim the top where the pieces meet to create a clean finish.

For the stem, take another piece of construction paper and cut three long strips: two that are 0.5 inches wide and one that is 1 inch wide.

Attach the end of one strip to a wooden skewer with glue, then wrap it tightly around the skewer to cover it completely. This will form the stem of your paper palm leaf.

Position the wrapped skewer at the center of the glued paper leaves and secure it with more glue.

Wrap another long strip around the base where the skewer and leaves meet, keeping everything tight and in place. Continue wrapping until the strip is fully used, then glue the end to secure it.

To add texture, use scissors to snip between each folded section of the leaves, giving them a more natural, palm-like appearance.

That’s it! Your paper palm leaf is now complete and ready to be used for decoration.
