I love the idea of making jewelry, so I am always on the lookout for unique items that I can recreate. This project involves shaping, bending, and wrapping wire to create an elegant fish design that can be worn as a pendant. This project is a lot of fun, and I think you are going to love it.

I will walk you through each step to form the fish body, shape its tail, and wrap the structure for a perfect look.

How to Make a Wire Fish Pendant

Step-by-Step Fish Pendant Tutorial

STEP 1:

Take a random length of wire and bend it carefully to form a layered triangle shape. This triangular structure will serve as the head of the fish’s body, providing the base for the rest of the pendant. Adjust the bends to a well-defined shape.

STEP 2:

Locate the center of the triangle and bend it from this point to form the main structure of the fish. Ensure the bend is well-defined. Leave approximately 1.5 inches of straight wire at the center; this section will serve as a guide for shaping the fish’s body later in the process.

STEP 3:

From the 1.5-inch straight section, bend the wire outward to form the first tail fin. Ensure the bend is smooth and well-shaped to create a fin structure.

STEP 4:

Follow the images carefully and create a second tail fin. The second tail should be slightly larger than the first one to give the pendant a natural look.

STEP 5:

Now, bend the remaining wire upward and trim it to match the 1.5-inch length of the straight section. This will ensure both sides are even and maintain the balance of the fish’s structure.

STEP 6:

Take a flat wire and create an open loop at one end. Position this loop at the tail side of the fish structure, ensuring a secure fit. Use flat pliers to press the loop firmly in place, locking it onto the fish’s frame for added stability.

STEP 7:

Start wrapping the flat wire around the fish structure, ensuring each wrap is neat and secure. Gradually increase the size of each wrap to create a layered effect, giving the pendant fish form, depth, and dimension. Continue wrapping until the entire structure is covered, maintaining even spacing for a polished and professional look.

STEP 8:

Once the wrapping is complete, bend the wire end securely onto the structure to hold it in place. Use flat-nose pliers to press it firmly, ensuring a strong grip and a clean, polished finish. This will keep the wrapping intact and enhance the durability of the pendant.

STEP 9:

To finish the piece, take a jump ring and open it using pliers. Pass the jump ring through the pendant and then attach the chain to it. Securely close the jump ring with pliers to ensure the pendant is firmly connected. Your handmade fish necklace is now ready to wear or gift!
