Niños Hotel Meloc Review in Cusco, Peru

We just got back from our trip to Peru, and I couldn’t wait to share our experience at Ninos Hotel Meloc in Cusco. Located on Meloc Street, just an eight-minute walk from the Main Square, this hotel is more than just a place to stay—it’s a beautiful retreat with a purpose.

From the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the perfect choice.

From the friendly and welcoming staff to the thoughtful details throughout the hotel, Niños Hotel Meloc quickly became one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed in. So much so that, on our last day in Cusco, I extended our stay for three more nights instead of heading back to Lima—that’s how much we loved it!

The Mission

What makes this hotel even more special is its mission. By staying here, you’re directly supporting the Niños Unidos Peruanos Foundation, which provides meals, medical and dental care, education, and a safe space for over 600 underprivileged children in Cusco and surrounding villages.

Check In

Niños Hotel Meloc is situated on a busy street in Cusco, so upon arrival, our driver quickly unloaded our luggage to avoid traffic congestion.

The check-in process was seamless, with the friendly staff assisting us immediately. Since Cusco sits at a high altitude, the hotel provides guests with complimentary coca leaves to help ease altitude sickness, a thoughtful touch that we truly appreciated.

There was a gift shop in the lobby area selling locally made Peruvian handicrafts, including hand-painted mugs, jewelry, and alpaca garments. Proceeds from these sales go toward supporting the foundation and providing fair wages to artisans.

The hotel itself is beautifully designed with rustic décor and vibrant murals painted on the walls. The courtyard is lush and inviting, creating a tranquil escape from the bustling streets outside.

The hotel offers a variety of room options, from single rooms with shared bathrooms to larger accommodations for families or groups.

The Room

Niños Hotel Meloc isn’t like your typical hotel. Instead of numbered rooms, each one is named after a child Jolanda, the founder, has adopted over the years—a touching detail that adds to the warmth and character of the place.

Every corner of the hotel is beautifully decorated, from the hand-painted murals on the walls to the glowing candles they light every evening throughout the property, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

Our room, Wilbert, was on the second floor, overlooking the courtyard. With a full-size bed and two twin beds, it was just right for our family of four. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained.

Each day we went out on the town, we returned to a perfectly cleaned room. You can tell how incredibly attentive housekeeping was.

While the hotel doesn’t have elevators, and you’ll need to carry your luggage upstairs, it’s a small price to pay for such a charming experience. The hotel is only two stories high, so be prepared for a bit of stair climbing.

Plus, they offer luggage storage service if you need somewhere to stash your excess luggage, especially if you are heading to Machu Picchu.

The Location

The location is unbeatable! It is perfectly situated for exploring Cusco’s historic center, placing you within walking distance of many must-see attractions, lively markets, and cultural experiences

Just a ten-minute walk away is Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city, surrounded by stunning Spanish colonial architecture, bustling cafés, and the iconic Cusco Cathedral and Church of the Society of Jesus. The plaza is always alive with activity—street musicians and vendors selling local crafts. It’s a great spot to sit, people-watch, and soak in the atmosphere.

If you’re planning a trip to Machu Picchu, Niños Hotel Meloc is also conveniently close to San Pedro Train Station, where you can catch a train to Aguas Calientes.

Despite being close to all these landmarks, Niños Hotel Meloc offers a calm and quiet escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Dining at Niños Hotel Meloc

While breakfast isn’t included in the room price, the hotel offers a fantastic selection of affordable breakfast options, which you can enjoy in the dining area, outside in the courtyard or on the balcony if staying upstairs.

One of our favorites was the Organic Andean breakfast, an assortment of fresh fruits that included papaya, mango, banana, pancakes, bread, coffee, and tea—a perfect, nourishing start to the day.

For lunch and dinner, the hotel’s restaurant serves meals made from fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced from local markets.

My personal favorite was the beef stew with rice, while every soup we tried was absolutely perfect. The desserts, though simple, were unforgettable, made with local fruits, cocoa, aromatic plants, and just the right touch of sweetness—exactly how homemade pastries should be!

A Cozy Courtyard

The hotel’s courtyard is a peaceful escape, with greenery, a water fountain, beautiful seating areas, and the soft hum of daily life in Cusco in the background.

A special touch was the kids’ play area, which included a small tea set and kitchen toys—keeping our little ones entertained while we enjoyed our meals.

Whether sipping tea in the morning or unwinding in the evening, it’s the perfect spot to relax.

Spa Services

One of the unexpected highlights of our stay was the affordable spa services. Being able to book a massage right at the hotel was such a treat, especially after long days of exploring.

one-hour body massage costs just $30, and they also offer foot reflexology, manicures, and pedicures—all at incredibly reasonable prices.

Would we stay here again? Absolutely!
