With spring break in full swing, I found myself searching for ways to keep my three- and four-year-old girls busy—and more importantly, entertained. I came across a local dance class that turned out to be a total gem: the Youth Dance Class at In the Groove Studios in downtown Oakland.
At just $20 per session, it felt like a great option to try. The class began at 5:00 PM and was led by two amazing instructors, Chrystal and Anna, who brought a great deal of energy and patience to the studio. Right from the start, it was clear this wasn’t just any kids’ dance class—it was the real deal.
What Makes This Class Special
One thing that stood out right away is that In the Groove Studios accepts kids as young as three all the way up to 12 years old. That’s not something you see everywhere. It created a welcoming, mixed-age environment that still felt organized and engaging for little ones.

The studio offers a variety of dance styles like hip hop, house, Chicago footwork, jazz funk, vogue, K-pop, and more—so whether your child wants to try something new or build on what they already love, there’s something for everyone.
Chrystal and Anna were fantastic with the kids, guiding them through choreography while making sure everyone was having fun. My daughters had an absolute blast. From warm-ups to dancing across the floor, they were smiling and laughing the entire time. As soon as class ended, they were already asking when they could go back.

If you’re looking for something fun to do with your kids—especially during school breaks or weekends—I can’t recommend In the Groove Studios enough. It’s more than just a dance class; it’s an experience that made my girls feel confident, happy, and excited to try something new.
