For my birthday this year, I wanted to do something special – something relaxing and beautiful that my little family could easily enjoy together. We decided to spend some time at Tres Sabores Winery, a cute, family-run spot in St. Helena, California.
What we found there was more than just great wine; it was a warm, welcoming experience surrounded by nature, animals, and the kind of peaceful atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile.
Tres Sabores isn’t just a winery—it’s also a working farm, filled with organic gardens, chickens, goats, and rows of vibrant flowers. Between the gardens, the farm animals, and the family-friendly hospitality, it felt like the perfect mix of wine country elegance and down-to-earth comfort.

A Hidden Gem in Napa Valley
Tres Sabores sits at the western edge of Napa Valley, where vineyards stretch toward wooded hillsides and the air feels calm and peaceful. The winery doesn’t have the glitzy, high-end feel that some Napa tasting rooms do, and honestly, that’s part of its magic.
It’s down-to-earth, surrounded by rows of organic grapevines, vegetable gardens, and colorful flowers. From the moment we arrived, I could tell this was the perfect place for a birthday celebration with my family.
A Relaxed, Family-Friendly Tasting
We booked a Portfolio Wine Tasting Experience for two, which included a tasting of six wines. Our host was incredibly friendly and made us feel comfortable from the start. What really impressed me, though, was how welcoming they were toward our two little girls. Instead of side-eyeing us for bringing little ones, they surprised our girls with coloring books, crayons, and juice boxes, allowing them to join in on the fun in their own way.
It’s not every day you find a winery that goes out of its way to make families feel included, and Tres Sabores did it beautifully. The setting was peaceful, the staff was kind, and we were able to enjoy our tasting without feeling rushed or out of place.
The Wines
The wines themselves were absolutely delicious, each one with its own story and personality. We tried a mix of reds and whites, all made from estate-grown, certified organic grapes.
My favorite was the Zinfandel, bold but smooth, while my partner loved the Petite Sirah. Every sip felt like a reminder of why Napa is so special.
A Working Farm with Plenty to Explore
After the tasting, we wandered around the property to check out the small farm that’s part of the winery. The girls were thrilled to see chickens and goats. The gardens were beautiful too, with rows of vegetables and herbs plus cheerful flowers blooming everywhere. It felt less like a commercial winery and more like visiting a friend’s country estate.
Even though we didn’t get to try their famous cheese and charcuterie platter (we waited too long to order one), we still enjoyed relaxing by the vineyard, soaking in the view and the sunshine. If you plan, they also offer Eco-Elevated picnic services complete with linens, plates, and utensils, all in keeping with their Napa Green Certified Winery standards.
The Little Things That Made It Special
Tres Sabores is full of thoughtful touches that make the visit memorable. From being dog-friendly (with reservations) to offering picnic tables beside the vines, it’s clear that the winery is built around comfort and community.
It’s these little gestures that set Tres Sabores apart, a reminder that good wine and good company should always go hand in hand.

Great wine, beautiful scenery, and my family laughing nearby. It was exactly the kind of birthday I had hoped for – relaxed, meaningful, and filled with simple joys.
