If you’ve ever been wine tasting in Napa Valley, you’ve probably heard of Beringer. And for good reason, as it’s one of the most iconic, historic, and absolutely beautiful wineries in the valley.
On a recent visit, we decided to finally check it out and booked their Legacy Cave Tour, which felt like the perfect blend of history, wine, and scenery.

Touring the Caves
The Legacy Cave Tour took us on a 30-minute guided walk through Beringer’s historic wine-aging tunnels. The caves, carved into the hillside in the late 1800s, feel like stepping into another world.
While the tour itself was a little fast-paced, we still got a good taste of Beringer’s impressive history—and yes, we sipped on three wines along the way.

Finding a Spot to Unwind
After the tour, we wandered the property and found ourselves a lovely courtyard spot to settle into. We picked up a bottle of wine from the shop and enjoyed it outside with our group.
Surrounded by the gardens, historic architecture, and laid-back Napa energy, it was a truly relaxing moment. It’s hard not to be impressed by how grand the grounds are, especially with the stately Rhine House just across the way.
So Many Tasting Options
Beringer offers a wide range of wine experiences, and if we had more time, we definitely would’ve tried more. Here are a few you can choose from (all available for booking on their website):
- Taste of Beringer Tour – Wine and culinary pairing in the historic Rhine House.
- Private Reserve Tasting – Focuses on limited-production wines.
- Rhine House Private Tasting – A more elevated tasting in one of the most stunning buildings in the valley.
- Seated Tastings on the Porch – Ideal for a relaxing afternoon with vineyard views.
- Library Tastings – Try rare wines from Beringer’s extensive cellar collection.
Even if you show up without a reservation, you’re not out of luck. Just head into the shop, grab a bottle (or two), some snacks, and settle in at one of the many seating areas on the property. It’s flexible, welcoming, and easy to make the day your own.
A Legacy That Lasts
Established in 1876, Beringer is Napa Valley’s oldest continuously operating winery, and it’s easy to see why. The combination of stunning grounds, a deep connection to Napa’s winemaking history, and a wide range of tasting experiences makes it a must-visit.
While our cave tour was brief, the overall experience was anything but. Between the wine, the scenery, and the relaxed courtyard vibes, we left already planning our return.
