The First Thing Many Women Want to Take Off the Moment They Get Home

For many women, getting home after a long day means changing into something comfortable, kicking off their shoes, and finally taking off their bra. It’s a small part of the daily routine, but the relief can feel surprisingly satisfying.

A survey commissioned by Bravissimo and conducted by Talker Research found that 58% of women are eager to remove their bras as soon as they get home. Nearly a quarter said they take theirs off within the first minute of walking through the door.

1. The Bra Comes Off Almost Immediately

Some women don’t wait until they’re ready for bed to get comfortable. They walk through the front door, put down their bags, and reach for the clasp before doing much else.

It’s a familiar routine for anyone who has spent hours wearing a bra that digs into their skin or leaves their shoulders sore. Once they’re home, comfort takes priority, and changing into a bra-free outfit can feel like the perfect end to the day.

2. Some Women Think About Taking Their Bras Off All Day

The anticipation often starts long before the workday ends. More than half of the women surveyed said they think about taking off their bras several times throughout the day.

Anyone who has dealt with slipping straps, an uncomfortable band, or underwires that seem to poke in all the wrong places can probably relate. By the time they get home, removing their bra may feel less like changing clothes and more like getting relief from something that has bothered them for hours.

3. Home Isn’t the Only Place Women Take Off Their Bras

Some women don’t even wait until they get home to ditch their bras. Survey respondents admitted to taking them off in their cars or while visiting a friend’s house.

That says plenty about how uncomfortable the wrong bra can feel after a long day. When a bra becomes too irritating to ignore, finding a little relief may matter more than sticking to the usual routine.

4. Finding a Comfortable Bra Can Be Surprisingly Difficult

Bras were the clothing item women reported having the most trouble fitting comfortably, ranking ahead of jeans and swimsuits in the survey. Nearly half of respondents also said they hadn’t found their ideal bra.

A bra might look great in the fitting room but feel completely different after several hours of sitting, walking, or working. Slipping straps, riding-up bands, and pinching cups can turn an everyday piece of clothing into a constant source of irritation.

5. Many Women May Not Know Their Correct Bra Size

Finding a bra that fits starts with knowing what size to look for, but that isn’t always easy. Many women surveyed said they had worked out their size by guessing or trying on different options until they found something that seemed to fit.

Nearly two-thirds said they’d never had a professional bra fitting. Because sizing varies between brands and styles, a size that works in one bra may feel uncomfortable in another, leaving women unsure whether the problem is the fit, the design, or both.

6. An Uncomfortable Bra May Be a Sign of a Poor Fit

Natalie Canavan, customer experience manager at Bravissimo, explained that wanting to take off a bra as soon as you get home could mean the size or style isn’t right for you. A well-fitting bra should support you without leaving you desperate to take it off at the end of the day.

Cup size and band measurements are only part of the picture. Breast shape, strap placement, fabric, underwire design, and support level can all affect how it feels after hours of wear.

7. That Feeling of Relief Is Something Many Women Share

For plenty of women, taking off their bra is one of the first things they do when they get home and can finally relax. The survey suggests that this everyday habit is far more common than some might think.
