A Thrifting Expert Says Never Visit the Goodwill Bins Without This

Shopping at Goodwill Bins locations is quite different from visiting a regular thrift store. Instead of browsing neatly arranged racks, shoppers sort through large bins of donated goods, with many clothing items sold by the pound.

The low prices can make the search worthwhile, but digging through piles of secondhand items calls for a little care. One item worth packing before you go is a sturdy pair of gloves.

Why Gloves Belong on Your Goodwill Bins Shopping List

In an interview with The U.S. Sun, Box, co-owner of Box Boy Vintage in Joplin, Missouri, recommended wearing durable gloves while searching through the bins. He suggested sturdy work gloves from a hardware store instead of thin disposable ones.

You can’t always see what’s buried beneath a pile of clothing, and sharp objects hidden in pockets or mixed in with donations can cause cuts or scrapes. Gloves also put a barrier between your skin and dirty items you may encounter during your search.

Bring Hand Sanitizer and Consider Wearing a Mask

A small bottle of hand sanitizer is useful for cleaning your hands after sorting through donations, especially before eating or touching your face. A mask may also help if you’re sensitive to dust stirred up by clothing and other items as shoppers move things around.

A little preparation can make your Goodwill Bins trip more comfortable while you search for bargains. Pack gloves, hand sanitizer, and anything else you need before heading out.
