Your blender is not just for preparing smoothies. It is the most amazing kitchen tool that goes beyond and over what one might expect it to do! If yours has been collecting dust at the back of your fridge, sandwiched between your protein shake and margarita glass, now is the time to give it a second chance in other capacities.

Whether you’re using it to make your own condiments or sauces, fancy restaurant style dishes, or just for practically eliminating any processed foods that ever crossed your path, your blender will help you win friends and make you feel like a professional cook. Here are of some of the most miraculous – and delicious – things you can knock together in this unsung hero of the kitchen.

Has anyone ever picked almond or peanut butter at the store and realized that it’s going to cost a bit of money? You can whip up a bit of this at home for a few dollars using only a few servings of nuts. Take your best roasted nuts and just drop them into the blender and see what happens. Within five minutes or so, you will be making your own creamy nut butter to which you can add a little bit of salt, honey or cocoa, depending on your preference.

Oat Flour

You are out of flour, but you crave some homemade baked goods? No problem! Crush some rolled oats in a blender until the oat turns fine, powdery like substance is formed. Voilà—oat flour! For those sensitive to gluten it is ideal for baking or to just give the extra ‘umph’ to pancakes, muffins or cookies. Also, it is much cheaper than when you have to make your oats flour by purchasing the raw oats then processing them.

If you got bored of the store-bought hummus you will be surprised that preparing it at home is a breeze. What you will need is canned chickpeas, tahini paste, olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic cloves. Throw it all in, give the blender a couple of whirls and you have freshly made, creamy hummus that’s so much better for you than shop bought.

Soup

Well, well, didn’t see this one coming! Your blender also plays an important role in preparing delicious and creamy home-like soups as those offered in restaurants. Begin by sautéing your vegetables and afterwards, you blend them with the stock until they are smooth. You can get a delicious tomato bisque, butternut squash, or even broccoli cheddar soup with them without a doubt. And if you have the high-speed blender, food can be warmed up in the blender as it blends the soup!

Ever wondered how you can whip your cream without having to whip it by hand, well with a blender this is a piece of cake. Take the heavy cream and pour it into the blender with some sugar plus a few tsp of vanilla essence and blend for like a few seconds only. In no time at all you will find yourself with delicious light and airy whipped cream waiting to garnish any pie, cake, or a cup of hot cocoa.

Prepare some fruits and or vegetables and steam, boil or bake them, then mash until a puree is formed. It is easily manageable depending on the baby’s age and it is so much healthier since you are in full control of what goes into the baby’s food- no preservatives or weird additives.

If you want new salsa and you don’t want to spend time on tomatoes, onions and peppers again, leave it to your blender – that’s where the work is going to be done! All you need to do is pulse everything together with some cilantro, lime juice and a pinch of salt. Within this time you will have a bowl of fresh salsa to eat just like salsa you order in Mexican restaurants.

It is healthy and has no traces of dairy and is perfect for those quick sugar cravings.
